(Last Updated On: 28th May 2018)

Save the date videos are getting more and more popular but some people still don’t know what they are?

To be fair, most couples can be forgiven for not having heard of the ever increasing trend. In 2017 the most common method was still to send out a save the date card, however ever since the turn of the century there has been a massive revolution in sharing video online and the decision to create a save the date video instead of or as well as a card is becoming more and more popular, particularly amongst younger couples.

Ok, so what is a save the date video?

Essentially, it is exactly as it sounds. A video that is professionally produced that presents to your guests your chosen wedding date.

But it can be SO SO much more than just a video saying when your getting married…

This unique way of celebrating your engagement and letting your guests know when your getting married is the perfect way of showing off your love for all to see and can be a useful way of saving you precious time, no longer needing to make all those cards and stick on all those stamps!

How does it look like?

The beauty of a save the date video is that there is so much creative freedom that it can take many different shapes and forms.

Some couples, like a beautiful montage of romantic clips together, others prefer a more comedic approach whilst some couples turn their video into more of a story or mini short film!

Of course don’t forget it is the opportunity to let your guests know all of the important details:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • Dress Code
  • Evening Entertainment

Ultimately how you want your video to look is completely down to you and you can talk through with your videographer what your preferred style is.

How can my friends and family see the video?

The most common method is to share the video on a social media platform, but some couples choose to send a traditional save the date card along with a blue-ray disk or in some cases a USB stick and present their video in this way.

You could even invite all of your friends and family to a special screening at your home or maybe hire a cinema or function room to present it? Bring out the drinks, the popcorn and snacks and make a real night of it!

As always, the choice is yours.
